The position is responsible for providing high level practice technology support to the litigation group in the New York Office but also be expected to support other practices and offices as needed. The successful candidate must be able to manage the full life cycle of electronic discovery and litigation support projects, including data collection, data processing/analysis, document review, production and trial/arbitration support.
• Communicate project status to relevant parties, monitor deadlines, assist in the allocation of resources, and preemptively identify potential issues.
• Provide user support to case teams with items such as search, retrieval and litigation support database assistance.
• Provide training to attorneys and legal assistants on litigation support systems and electronic discovery best practices.
• Adhere to department best practices regarding data processing, loading, review and production.
• Create and design databases for attorneys. Load electronic documents (images, metadata, native files, transcripts, videos, etc.) into databases for attorney review. Systems include: Relativity, RelativityOne, and Case Notebook
• Create and manipulate various load file types and reports using MS Access and other database tools. Create and modify complex queries and modules (Visual Basic, SQL, etc.). Experience with Command Prompt (cmd).
• Customize document review designation panes, views and workflows for attorneys. Perform complex database searches and reports. Prepare, create and manage electronic document productions (Relativity or RelativityOne). Perform comprehensive review designation checks for potential conflicts. Quality check productions and ensure required specifications are met.
• Serve as Litigation Technology main point of contact on assigned matters and manage the full litigation support and electronic discovery lifecycle on those matters, includes ESI preservation, collection, processing/analysis, review, production and trial support. Manage large and complex eDiscovery matters requiring advanced project management experience and technical expertise. Counsel attorneys on litigation support and electronic discovery best practices. Coordinate with external electronic discovery service providers. Develop project plans and cost estimates for attorneys and clients. Adhere to vendor engagement, SOW and invoice protocols (ensure SOWs are approved and invoices are paid in a timely fashion). Actively partner with attorneys, legal assistants, case managers and other personnel to support matters.
• Troubleshoot litigation technology systems and databases. Provide assistance with complex database searches/queries, print projects and reports. Coordinate system upgrades and server migrations with IT. Maintain media inventory database (chain of custody). Create and copy media. Setup department laptops - install and configure applications (load case databases, images, etc.) as needed.
• Process ESI using in-house processing tools such as Relativity and RelativityOne (includes duplication, culling/filtering, text/metadata extraction, OCRing non-searchable files, tiff conversion, error/exception handling and quality control).
• Assist with the development of department documentation, presentations, etc. Assist with the enhancement of guidelines and procedures to ensure efficient work flow while maintaining high quality control standards.
• Provide technology support at depositions and trials (set up Real-Time Connections, trial war rooms, presentation systems, etc.). Coordinate Litigation Technology equipment setups, systems and logistics for trials.
• Assist in mentoring analysts to ensure comprehensive knowledge across all roles within the department.
• Other responsibilities as they may be assigned from time to time.
The anticipated base salary range offered for this role will be between $90,000 to $155,000
• At least 7+ years of law firm or litigation support service provider experience required. Prior experience maintaining, managing, and customizing litigation support databases is required (includes administrative management, import / export and design enhancement experience)
• Well-versed in litigation support and electronic discovery best practices and technology solutions
• Well-versed in EDRM model
• Experience working with senior attorneys and clients
• Extensive experience with Relativity and West Case Notebook preferred, but may be overcome by candidates with a strong background working extensively with Concordance, Summation or comparable litigation software platforms
• Prior experience managing large, complex eDiscovery matters/projects
• Experience creating and manipulating various load file types and reports using MS Access and other database tools is required
• General knowledge of desktop applications (e.g. MS Office) is required
• General knowledge of computer\server troubleshooting (PC and MAC) a plus
• Experience in MS Access and Visual Basic programming a plus
• Experience processing electronic discovery using processing systems (e.g. LAW, Relativity, etc.) strongly preferred
